Who we are currently rocking 4

The Rock4Change Movement is currently focused on supporting the creation of sustainable relief efforts in Darfur and Uganda.

Africa is the world's second-largest and second most-populous continent, and is in dire need of our help. It is a land rich in both history and culture yet poor in life-sustaining resources. As a neighbor in the global community, it is our duty to help the people of Africa let their voices be heard and to put an end to the atrocities that plague their society.

Africa at a glance:
• Malaria kills more than one million people each year in sub-Sahara Africa.
• 300,000 people were killed by the tsunami. And that many die in Africa every month from poverty and disease.
• 5,800 Africans die from AIDS every day.
• 46 years is the average African life span.
• 41% of Africans live on less than one dollar a day.
We have chosen to shine a spotlight on the conditions in the Northeastern region of Africa, specifically raising money and awareness for relief efforts in Darfur and Uganda.

Darfur at a glance:
• Pro-government Arab militias are accused of carrying out a campaign of ethnic cleansing against non-Arab groups in the region.

• Since 2003 approximately 300,000 people killed, 2.5 million forced out of their homes into refugee camps. (UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs)

• 15,000 people die each month (International Coalition for Justice)

• More than 20% of children under five years old are suffering from severe malnutrition and many are dying each day (UN World Food Program)

• Only 50% of persons in need are receiving food assistance (UN World Food Program)

Uganda at a glance:

• Uganda is home to Africa’s longest war. It began in 1980. (Data.org)

• Number of adults living with HIV/AIDS: 900,000. Of which 520,000 are women. (Data.org)

• Orphans due to AIDS (still living): over 1,000,000 (Data.org)

• Percentage of population with access to safe drinking water: 56% (Data.org)

• Percentage of population with access to sanitation: 41% (Data.org)
