AID STILL REQUIRED
Reforestation Project:
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon - It is no accident that the violence in Darfur erupted during the drought.
The Sahara Desert has been growing at an alarming rate during the past 20 years, causing continual conflict over the very necessities of life in most of Darfur. 80% of the population there relies on agriculture to survive, but the ability to grow food has become nearly impossible in much of the region. Through the use of indigenous trees and shrubs, Aid Still Required’s Reforestation Project proposes to restore desert land to arability, thereby relieving tension in the area and returning Darfur life to normalcy. The project also provides commerce from the shrubs’ production of medicinal herbs and from the honey produced by bees used to cross-pollinate the plant-life.
On a macro level, the Reforestation Project is likely to have enormous impact. The creep of Sahara Desert has enveloped much of Northern Africa, causing hardship to tens of millions. What better gift can we give the people there than the ability to work their land again, develop new industry, and gain self-sufficiency?
The project requires $283,000 to fulfill on its pilot stage. Based upon its success, further funds will be needed to replicate it throughout the region.
HANDS ACROSS NATIONS
The Clean Springs Campaign:
56% of the population does NOT have access to safe drinking water. This causes numerous medical & economic problems for the people of Northern Uganda. The Clean Springs Campaign provides fresh clean water to hundreds and sometimes even thousands of people per day, per spring. For just over $1200, we will dedicate a spring in your name or your company’s name which will provide clean water to drink and bathe in rather than watering holes and muddy streams that animals drink from. In providing these protected springs, it drastically reduces diseases like malaria and typhoid, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical costs due to the spread of diseases. Now is the time for you personally to supply life-sustaining water to thousands of people.
Our goal with this campaign is to create 40 more springs at $1200 per spring for a total cost of $48,000. |
